John Cena has openly admitted to feeling regret over his past feud with Dwayne Johnson, acknowledging that he was “shortsighted and selfish” during that time. In an interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Cena expressed that he believes he and Johnson have always had a good relationship, except for a period where he made a mistake.
The feud between the two WWE stars began in 2011 when Johnson returned to the company after a long hiatus. Feeling provoked, Cena publicly called out Johnson and challenged him to a fight. Reflecting on this, Cena recognized that his own selfishness and lack of perspective at the time led to the feud.
Cena admitted that he was living in the WWE world and didn’t fully understand the concept of growth or considering someone else’s perspective. He acknowledged his hypocrisy, as he expected others to be fully committed to WWE while he himself couldn’t be there all the time.
The feud between Cena and Johnson resulted in two highly anticipated WrestleMania matches, generating significant viewership. However, Cena now realizes that his desire for a marquee main event was shortsighted and selfish. He acknowledged that the feud put their friendship and communication at risk.
Since then, both Cena and Johnson have moved past their differences. Cena made a cameo appearance as himself in Johnson’s film “Fighting with My Family” in 2019, and Johnson returned the favor with an uncredited cameo as Hobbs in the recent “Fast X” film, which also stars Cena.
Cena emphasized that their friendship is now in a good place, highlighting the importance of their reconciliation and leaving the past behind them.
