To celebrate their anniversary, we’re reflecting on the tennis pro’s stunning wedding attire, which included three distinct dresses, each designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, known for creating Princess Kate’s wedding gown.
The first dress, a strapless ball-gown style, was Serena’s choice after Anna Wintour suggested Sarah Burton for its cape design, making her feel like both a princess and superwoman. Serena adorned this gown with a $3.5 million worth of XIV Karats jewelry as she walked down the aisle at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. Her bridesmaids complemented her look in custom Galia Lahav dresses.
For the evening celebrations, Serena changed into a dazzling beaded and feathered Versace gown, a creation that required over 1,500 hours of work by five embroiderers according to Donatella Versace.
Later, for her first dance to “Tale as Old as Time,” Serena opted for a mini dress featuring a feathered skirt, pairing it not with traditional heels but with bejeweled Nike trainers for comfort and style.
Serena and Alexis chose their wedding date, November 16, as a tribute to Alexis’s late mother, who passed away nine years prior. By celebrating on her birthday, they ensured her presence was felt and honored throughout their special day.
Their love story began with an engagement in Rome in 2016, where they first met, and has since blossomed with the arrival of their daughter, Olympia, shortly before their 2017 wedding.
