And immediately after the game ended, Portuguese defender Pepe broke down in tears as team captain Cristiano Ronaldo consoled him.With 143 caps for his country, 41-year-old Pepe’s time in international play is most likely coming to an end in Euro 2024.The defender has spent 17 years playing for Portugal, and he has two trophies to his name. In the 2016 Euros, his team defeated France 1-0.In all but one of Portugal’s Euro 2024 matches, Pepe started, shattering the record for the oldest player to compete in the tournament.Following Monday’s victory against Slovenia, captain Ronaldo announced that Euro 2024 will be his last international tournament.
