Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of the Italy national team, stated during the EURO 2024 campaign that he will be pleased with Riccardo Calafiori’s impending move to Premier League giants Arsenal.
Why Calafiori’s transfer to Arsenal will please Spalletti
Before Italy faced Croatia in the final group stage encounter in Germany, Spalletti stated that he would prefer to have players with experience from various leagues around Europe.
“All national teams have players who play for every top team. Actually, we are a squad that needs players to travel abroad and gain experience in top European teams,” Spalletti stated at his pre-Croatia press conference in late June.
Calafiori aims to obtain international experience once his move to Arsenal is finalised.
Although the Gunners have not yet reached an arrangement with Calafiori’s current employers, Bologna, they plan to do so this week. The athlete has apparently already agreed to personal terms.
The 22-year-old is poised to join the Premier League for a cost of around €50 million plus add-ons, more than double Bologna’s record selling. Simone Verdi now holds the title following his €25 million move to Napoli in 2018.
