The Guardian reports that Manchester City is one of three teams “considering a move” for Crystal Palace offensive midfielder Eberechi Eze.
According to the tabloid, the Eagles are awaiting approaches from Premier League winners Tottenham and Arsenal.
According to sources, Eze’s contract has a £60 million release clause, similar to the one activated by Bayern Munich for his colleague Michael Olise.
It is uncertain whether the Cityzens are willing to pay that much for the 25-year-old. Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne’s futures might be very important.
Why does City want to sign Eze?
In 32 appearances, the England international netted 11 goals and assisted six times for Palace in a very successful season. Several analysts have praised the athlete, including Martin Keown of TNT Sports. Earlier this year, he stated this about Eze:
“Last year at this time, Patrick Vieira was about to leave, and I spoke with Eze at the training ground.” He left me incredibly amazed. He bombarded me with questions, asking specifically about my work ethic, daily training regimen, and desire to excel.
“Okay, I need to do more,” he said. It was fascinating; later, I watched with a great deal of curiosity, and he is since moved on. In his ear, Roy Hopkinson is presenting him appropriately. There is no denying this man’s extraordinary talent.
What’s going on between Silva and De Bruyne?
This week, there were reports that City would not engage with De Bruyne about extending his contract. His current deal is set to expire at the end of next season. Given his stated desire to go to Saudi Arabia, the Belgian is likely to make the move to the Middle East this summer.
Meanwhile, Silva’s contract has a £50 million release clause, which Bayern has claimed it is willing to exercise. We’ll have to wait and see whether it occurs.
