Gordon Ramsay has disclosed that he is feeling pressure from his wife, Tana, to have a sixth child, but he is not on board with the idea. The renowned chef, aged 56, and his wife, 49, already have five children: Megan, 24, twins Holly and Jack, 23, Tilly, 21, and Oscar, four.
In a candid chat on the Dish podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, Ramsay shared: “I’ve got a little secret… Tana wants another one.” He expressed his hesitation, citing practical concerns like the need for “two buses” for family outings and being significantly older than other parents at school. “It’s like going to school, going out for dinner in two buses. And secondly, I’m going to be the oldest f***er at school. ‘Who’s your grandad?’ And what about sports day? The egg and spoon race. What am I going to do? So, I’d love another one, but no.”
Ramsay also recounted how his youngest child, Oscar, is showing early signs of his father’s discerning palate. Oscar reportedly complained about his school’s food, telling Ramsay it was “s***” and his blazer was “too fing itchy.” Ramsay advised him to “bring your fing own,” and now Oscar has his own prepped lunchbox with finger sandwiches.
Despite his reluctance to expand the family, Ramsay admitted that he has grown as a parent with each child. He noted that his parenting skills have improved over time, saying, “Everything you did wrong first time round, you do so much better. He’s growing up at such a rate of knots. He’s like a little adult at four because he’s got four big siblings that he answers to.”
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Ramsay revealed that Tana was eager to use the time to try for a sixth child. He humorously recounted a conversation with Jimmy Fallon, saying: “Literally two hours ago our prime minister has announced we are in lockdown now until the frigging 15th of February. So [Tana] said we have good news. You are up late talking to Jimmy. Tomorrow night we go for number six!”
Tana had previously expressed her desire for more children in 2021, telling Hello! magazine, “I so love babies but I think I’ll still be saying that when I’m in my 70s!” She added, “I don’t think there’s ever a time when I’ll go, ‘Oh my god never, ever, ever again.’ But let’s just say I count my blessings and think I’m incredibly lucky. I’m just enjoying every single moment of this one.”
